Dear Mr Solan,

I would like to take this opportunity to thank you again for the surgery to fix my plantar fasciitis.

After six months of enduring the painful effects of this condition, along with a significant amount of physiotherapy, I believed that surgery was the best option for me. Having understood from the risks, I still felt that it was worth enduring the relatively minor short term discomfort for the longer term benefits. Since having the surgery four weeks ago, I can safely say that it was the right decision for me. For the first few days, there was some pain and a cramping feeling in my leg which was significantly reduced by taking paracetamol. It was also difficult to walk, but within a week to ten days I was able to move around quite easily. In addition, by the end of the first week, the pain in my heel from the plantar fasciitis had disappeared, which has made my life so much easier.

Four weeks on and I am back to normal. I am as mobile as I was before the plantar fasciitis and able to go on walks with my family again, as well as shop for hours on end!

I understand that surgery for plantar fasciitis is not the only option, and I appreciate the time and effort that Mr Solan took to explain over a period of months my various choices. However, for those who are considering surgery, the operation has significantly improved my quality of life for which I am very grateful to you and your team at St John’s and St Elizabeths.

With kind regards
Vicky Shafran
