Mr Matthew Solan

Mr. Solan deals with all foot and ankle disorders and sports injuries. He treats children as well as adults. He has special expertise in the painful big toe, part of the international team pioneering Cartiva surgery. He runs Instructional Courses on key-hole ankle surgery for sports injuries. He also has a particular interest in the treatment of stubborn heel pain. He established and runs the UK’s first ‘One-Stop’ clinic for heel and ankle problems such as ankle tendonitis and plantar fasciitis. He has pioneered the use of minimally invasive muscle release surgery and shock wave therapy for chronic heel pain

Biography

Consultant orthopaedic surgeon Matthew Solan joined LFAC in 2003. His specialist foot and ankle training included prestigious fellowships in the USA and Dublin.

 

Mr. Solan’s NHS post is at the Royal Surrey County Hospital where he established the UK’s first “one-stop” heel pain service, also available at LFAC. Mr. Solan is very active in research and training, having produced 20 scientific publications in the last five years alone on a broad range of themes, with a particular interest in the treatment of intractable heel pain. 

 

He is Program Director for Orthopaedic Surgery Training in Kent, Surrey and Sussex and chairman of the BOFAS Scientific Committee. Mr. Solan also holds academic posts: visiting Professor at London South Bank University and visiting lecturer at Surrey University.
